CV Joint and Driveshaft Repair

The components of your vehicle’s driveline, or drivetrain, need to be maintained to ensure the performance and functionality of your BMW, Audi, or Mercedes-Benz is maintained. Two of the components of the driveline system are the axle(s), -and the driveshaft(s). The CV joint is part of the axle. The number of each will depend on whether you have 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle.

The driveshaft in your car will either be a steel or aluminum cylinder that connects the transmission to the rear differential and also to the front differential in the case of the 4-wheel drive systems through the transfer case. It is the driveshaft that connects to the transmission through the CV (constant velocity) joints, or through a U-joint, which transfer torque from the transmission to the drive wheels at a consistent speed

The driveline components, (axles, with CV joints, and U-joints) will require maintenance or replacement services over the lifetime of your vehicle. CV joints allow the axle to bend and change while accommodating the bounce of the wheels, as permitted by your car’s suspension system.

All of these components are placed under stress during regular driving, and will require a qualified mechanic to service them to get the most life out of your vehicle. Let Alin at Eurotekk in Edmonton service your driveline system, he has the facilities and experience you need to protect your investment.

Driveline Troubleshooting

We have provided a general list of driveline system issues that may indicate that your vehicle is due for service of the axle, CV joints, or driveshaft.

  • Clunking or clicking noises may mean your CV joint needs replacement.
  • Vibrations during acceleration may indicate a damaged driveshaft, (or an axle issue depending on the layout of your vehicle).
  • Turning and steering issues may also arise out of a problem with the axle.
  • Grease leaking out of a damaged CV boot can damage the CV joint.
